One Shining Moment
Allan Jay Friedman was the instigator of this fascinating project, which he brought to me in 1980. We successfully workshopped the show at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in Connecticut. Later that year we opened a limited season run at the Drury Lane Theatre in Chicago. One Shining Moment was blessed with dazzling reviews, and the four-to-six week run soon expanded into eight or nine months. I still love the show, which presents, I think, an interestingly balanced view of the good and not so good aspects of Kennedy's complex character, and I hope we have not seen or heard the last of what I elected to re-title Kennedy - The Musical.
